More on Goree Girls

As we know, Jen’s next project, set to begin production in the winter, is Goree Girls, the true story of women in a Texas prison in the 1940’s who started a band in order to get paroled. We’ve heard bits and pieces about this project, and movie blog Bill Kills got the inside scoop on Jen’s preparation for the project.

Asked about her talent on the guitar, Jen simply says, “I don’t know yet.” But she’s about to find out – during the next few months she will embark on an intensive course of study in the instrument; she tells them that she’s “gonna start over the next couple of months. Just for me, I’m just gonna start playing, learning guitar.”

But this flick’s not just about music – there’s an interesting social statement in there as well. While so many performers do so seemingly with the aim of fame and fortune, the Goree Girls actually set out to disappear – in getting paroled, they would become private citizens again: “As opposed to today, where everybody’s begging and dying for that ‘American Idol’ moment, or that ‘Fame’ moment, they actually did it to be become free.”
